With the end of Keeping Up with The Kardashians, comes the end of an era. Could it also mean the end of the empire this famous family has been building for the last 14 years? With the announcement of the final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians airing in early 2021, we will finally be saying goodbye to the Kardashian clan. With the sudden news of the Kardashians stepping out of the spotlight, lots of fans have been left wondering what it all means. Could the end of their empires come crashing down following the end to their TV reign?
KUWTK shot this iconic family into stardom as they slowly became what they are today, going from D list social climbers to each member of the family having their own empires. Does anyone else remember when Kim used to clean Paris Hilton‘s closet? Kylie Jenner was just 10 years old when the first season aired and now, she’s the youngest self-made billionaire.
If you’re a KUWTK fan you already know the phrase ‘The devil works hard but Kris Jenner worlds harder.’ The momager has been able to keep her family in the spotlight while also making them some of the most well-known people in the world. Her five daughters, Kylie, Kim, Kendall, Khloe, and Kourtney are all in the top 20 most-followed people on Instagram, with a combined following of almost 750 million. KUWTK has helped spawn many spin-offs including Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Kourtney & Kim Take Miami, Khloe & Lamar, Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons, Dash Dolls, I am Cait, Rob & Chyna, Revenge Body With Khloe, and Life of Kylie, just to name a few.
The members of this iconic bloodline shared touching posts to their Instagram’s in light of the announcement. Kris and Kim posted the throwback of all time, the first KUWTK poster shot in 2007. The post read “To our amazing fans – It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes, and numerous spin-off shows, we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years – through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children. We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way. Our last season will air early next year in 2021.”
The nostalgic picture shows how far the Kardashians have come and how much things have changed. Kim is no longer the ‘main character’ of the family. Her sister Kylie, who looks almost unrecognizable in the OG poster, has wholly stolen her title. This show is so important to so many people but especially for the Kardashians as they skyrocketed into fame after the first few seasons of KUWTK aired.
The Kardashian families’ longtime friend, Paris Hilton, weighed in on what she thinks about the announcement in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Paris stated that the show is probably ending because they “have so many things going on,” she goes on to say “They have huge business empires. I am sure they want to spend their time doing that and being with [their] families. And after 20 seasons, I think they are ready to just live their life and not be on camera every second.” the heiress said. Paris knows a thing or two about what it’s like to be filmed for “every second”. She starred in her own reality show, The Simple Life, with Nicole Riche for 5 seasons airing from 2003-2007. The Simple Life was cancelled just a few months before KUWTK aired its first episode.
Ryan Seacrest, who isn’t just a friend but the co-creator of KUWTK, sat down with Kris in an interview for his radio show. Kris stated that she feels it’s time for her and her family to “take a breath”. “I think the number 20 used to sound good until 2020, but the number 20 just seemed like the right time I think for us to take a minute and breathe and everybody slow down a bit;… figure out what our next steps are.”
Kris also revealed the members of the family that are taking the news the hardest, Khloe Kardashian and Scott Disick. Kris told Ryan that Khloe “hasn’t stopped crying” since the announcement was made.
