Q&A with Galaxy Wick

As a pioneer of trap music and a staple in Atlanta’s entertainment scene, what inspired you to venture into the music industry, and how has your journey evolved over the years?

After attending MC Breed and Tupac’s video shoot for “I Gotta Get Mine, You Gotta Get Yours,” I was inspired to rap. I formed Ghetto Mafia with Nino, and together we made history.

Ghetto Mafia played a significant role in shaping the landscape of rap music culture. What are some of the key moments or experiences from that era that have stayed with you throughout your career?

The first time seeing our video “Straight From The Dec” air on Rap City and Yo! MTV Raps was monumental. It was a pivotal moment that validated our hard work and impact on the culture.

You were recently honored at Mercedes Benz Stadium alongside other Atlanta rap legends. How does it feel to be recognized for your contributions to hip-hop, and what significance does this recognition hold for you?

It holds great significance to be honored by my favorite football team in my favorite city alongside my peers. I am extremely grateful.

Co-hosting one of the biggest music and entertainment podcasts in the country is quite an achievement. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind BHIGH ATL and the experience of interviewing rap legends like Ice-T, CeeLo Green, and Bun B?

Our show is “moving the culture forward,” and our in-depth interviews shine a positive light on hip-hop legends instead of the negativity that other platforms focus on.

Your new single “Break The Bank” with CeeLo Green has just been released. What was the creative process like behind this collaboration, and what message do you hope to convey through the song?

The collaboration with DJ Burn One, the Five Points Bakery, myself, and CeeLo was a collective effort. “Break the Bank” is a feel-good record that everyone can enjoy.

In addition to music, you’ve also ventured into acting, recently appearing in “Wide Open: The Andre Rison Story.” How do you approach your roles in film, and what draws you to these projects?

I look for roles that allow me to be myself and want to play characters I can relate to.

How do you balance your various roles in the music industry, from creating music to hosting podcasts and acting in films? Do you find that each role informs the others in some way?

I enjoy the work, staying busy, and diversifying myself in the entertainment industry. Each role does inform the others and enriches my overall experience.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists and entertainers who are looking to make their mark in the industry, particularly in a genre as influential as trap music?

Be authentic and don’t follow trends. Authenticity resonates with people and helps build a lasting career.

Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Galaxy Wick in terms of new music, podcast episodes, and other creative endeavors?

Fans can expect more collaborations with legendary and talented artists, more film projects, and continued growth of my Galaxy Wick brand.

In closing, Galaxy Wick’s journey from trap music pioneer to multifaceted entertainer underscores his lasting influence on the industry. As he continues to innovate and inspire, his contributions to music, film, and podcasting ensure his legacy as a true cultural icon.
